JACOB WATKINSON
UNEARTHED (2023)
A visualisation of the attempt to remember a childhood friend. The film was created by exhuming deteriorated Super 8 film from the ground after over a year of burial and marks a culmination of the processes and experimentation undertaken for the past three years by the filmmaker. The sound was created by composer Graeme Smith who made multiple tape experiments and loops as the basis of the sound for the film.
IOWA I (2022)
Commissioned by artists Miles Lukoszevieze and Graeme Smith. An abstract and visceral reflection on the domestication of primal forces. The film is composed of 8mm and 16mm footage of chimps dating back to as early as the 1940's; these films were subjected to various processes to break down the emulsion. A constant state of flux is held between the subjects of the images and the material that contains and, ultimately, consumes them.
BOGUS. (2023)
'bogus.' is comprised entirely of the artists bogeys, mucus and nose blood. The short tells a simple and ridiculous tale of someone who delves too deep into the unknown and suffers the consequences.
The score was created by processing the finished film through software designed to read 16mm optical soundtracks, creating an audio-visual assault entirely constructed from bogeys.
EMBERS (2021)
A collaboration with the Sound Artist Callum Rawe, Embers is a tragic and crushing journey through a deteriorating mind. The film is comprised of analogue film, decayed through various means by the filmmaker to create an interplay between the longing figures of the images and the entropic processes that consume them, culminating in an inevitable space where all structure and representation crumbles into dust.
HOLLOW (2018)
Hollow follows a single night in a long-broken household. A young boy attempts to retrieve his stolen teddy, wandering through the shadows that scatter his decadent home.
OUR FATHER (2019)
A terminally ill priest attempts to reconcile with his loss of faith during a visit to a childhood friend on her deathbed. The film has been screened at multiple international film festivals.
